Why do bats come out in the dark? Panchatantra Stories

Why do bats come out in the dark? Panchatantra Stories in English Why Do Bats Come Out Only In The Dark? A long time ago, a violent battle broke out between the animals and the birds. The birds pecked at the animals and flew away out of their reach and the infuriated animals did not allow the birds to land on the ground to have food or water. This battle went on for many days. The bats decided not to be smart and not pick sides and stay neutral. They thought to themselves, “Ours is a special position, we are birds because we can fly, and we are animals because we do not lay eggs.” So, the proud bats decided to join the winners. When the bats saw that the birds were in a winning position, they would start hobnobbing with them, and when they felt that the animals were winning, they joined their camp. The bats thought they were being very smart by changing their loyalties based on who was winning. They only looked out for their own interests and would hop from one camp to the other.Gradua...

The Lion’s Bad Breath - Panchatantra Stories

The Lion’s Bad Breath - Panchatantra Stories in English

The Lion's Bad Breath One afternoon, a lion was in a very foul mood because he had heard rumours spreading that he had very bad breath. He pretended that he did not care, but secretly wanted to find out the truth for himself.

Later that day, the lion summoned three of his counsellors – the sheep, the wolf and the fox. He first addressed the sheep and asked, "Tell me, do you think my breath smells bad?" The sheep thought the lion wanted to know the truth and humbly bowed before the lion and said, "Yes, your Majesty! Your breath smells terrible. In fact, it smells so bad that it makes me feel sick.” This was not what the lion wanted to hear.

He roared loudly with anger and banished the sheep from the court. Then, he called the wolf and said, “Tell me, O wolf! Do you think my breath smells bad?" The wolf had already seen what the lion did to the sheep when she told him the truth. He had no intentions of ending up the same way. He folded his hands and said, "Your Majesty! I wonder who in the world told you your breath smells! Your breath smells as sweet as the flowers in spring. I simply love to be around you." Understanding that the wolf was lying, the lion banished him too. At last, the lion called the fox.

The fox had seen the fate of the sheep and the wolf. They had both been punished for telling the truth and for lying. He did not know what to tell the lion. “Tell me, O fox,” growled the Lion, “Do you think my breath smells?” The fox coughed and sneezed and blew his nose, and then clearing his throat noisily, said in a hoarse voice, “I’m sorry, your Majesty! I have such a nasty cold. I cannot smell anything.” The lion found his excuse to be genuine, and allowed him to stay.

This proves it’s better to be safe than sorry!
